Hip Hop

Jordan and Mat face standHip Hop, as seen in music videos and concert acts of hip hop and pop recording artists, is fun, athletic, and expressive. Any performer considering a career in commercial dance needs the ability to embody this style of moving.  Due to the integration of hip hop elements into every other form of dance, even ballet, it is becoming increasingly necessary for all performers to have training in this form.

Very serious Commercially focused dancers, can train with a Half Day Training option.

Hip Hop for the very young child:

For students up to age 7, Caulfield School of Dance offers introduction to Hip Hop dance skills in Stage  courses.

Stage dance courses include Jazz/ Lyrical dance styles, Hip Hop, some Modern/ Contemporary dance technique, and basic Acrobatic skills, all with an emphasis on expression.

For ages 4 to 7, our Pre-Primary/Primary Stage programs are once-a-week courses which provide an introduction to Stage Dance. The children prepare a performance piece drawing on the skills learned in the course for our annual spring stage production, an exciting experience that develops memory, musicality, team building, and self-confidence.

Hip Hop for students aged 8 and up:

Hip Hop performing courses offer a variety of hip hop techniques including Break Dance, Popping, Locking, Animation, House, Whacking, and Street Jazz, and prepare a performance piece for our annual spring stage production. Some levels also compete.

Because the integration of hip hop in every other form of dance, even ballet, taking a Hip Hop Technique course is a good way to develop skills without preparing a Hip Hop performance piece. Of course taking a Hip Hop Technique course gives more in-depth instruction in Hip Hop technique for students who are interested in performing in Hip Hop with improved ability.

Because they so effectively promote improvement in many crucial dance skills areas, all dance students are well advised to take a Jazz Technique course to develop dance (especially jumps, kicks, and turns) skills, co-ordination, strength (especially of the core), and acrobatic skills. And Acro Technique courses are also very beneficial. Technique courses do not prepare pieces for performing.

Private or Semiprivate instruction available* in all disciplines to develop skills or to prepare performing pieces.

Adult Hip Hop courses also available.

* Subject to scheduling availability.
