We could not have been more proud of all six of our pieces that competed in the “No Borders Group Dance Challenge” at Surrey Arts Centre on Saturday, May 12, 2018!
It was thrilling to have our Professional Training Division Half Day Program contemporary ballet piece “Pair Bonds” choreographed by Cori Caulfield, awarded 2nd in the Grand Championships of the “No Borders” competition. Congratulations to the Style and Grace Varsity dancers of Praise T.E.A.M., whose extraordinary hip hop piece was awarded 1st, and Peggy Peat’s wonderful song and dance “Something Rotten” who were awarded 3rd, and ALL the dancers who participated in the all-day “No Borders” event.

The cast of Hailley Caulfield Postle’s “We Speak No Americano” after winning the “No Borders” Junior Stage competition
The Surrey Festival “No Borders” organizer apologized for placing our Junior Jazz number in the Junior Tap/ Stage /Lip Synch / Musical Theatre category instead of the Jazz /Lyrical /Hip Hop category. Thanks to Ms. Hailley’s quick actions on noticing the error, when the Performance Training Company were all ready backstage disguised as mustachioed Italian men, they were able to quick-change into their jazz costumes, hair, and makeup and immediately perform “Shake Your Body” choreographed by Lauren Taylor, and then quick change back into mustachioed Italian men to perform their tap number “We Speak No Americano” choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle.

The Performance Training Company number “We Speak No Americano” was selected as the representative number from the Junior Tap/ Stage /Lip Synch / Musical Theatre category to advance to the Grand Championships.
In the Intermediate age level Ballet/Modern/Contemporary “No Borders” competition, “Pair Bonds” choreographed by Cori Caulfield, and classical piece “Ballet Baroque” choreographed by Jocelyn Wozencroft, both danced by the Professional Training Division Half Day Program, and “Hunger of the Pine” choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle, danced by the Professional Training Division contemporary group, all peformed beautifully, and all with last minute cast changes – “Hunger of the Pine” missing three! “Pair Bonds” with no rehearsal to adjust to Abriel being unable to dance due to wry neck, were nevertheless selected as the representative number from this category to advance to the Grand Championships.

“Pair Bonds” was also selected by the Surrey Festival of Dance Senior Ballet Adjudicator to receive the Goh Ballet Academy Challenge Trophy for Most Outstanding Group Ballet piece of the entire Festival (which was received by Jocelyn Wozencroft’s “Degas” ballet group last year), and the Visions Electronics and Ritz Catering scholarships. In total, “Pair Bonds” received $1100 in scholarships from Surrey Festival/”No Borders”.

The cast of Lauren Taylor’s “Shake Your Body” including Alejandra, unable to dance due to a broken toe
In the Intermediate Age Level Tap/ Stage /Lip Synch / Musical Theatre “No Borders” competition, the Professional Training Division tap group did an awesome showing of their number “Shout!” choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle in spite of truly last minute cast changes, with Abriel and two other dancers not performing, and 9 year old (!) Taia Fiorda stepping in to save the day.
It was also lovely to have Sabina Nelson and Caitlyn Woo presented with awards and scholarships in recognition of their selection as the Junior and Intermediate age level representatives from Surrey festival of Dance to “Provincials”.
Huge thanks to all the dancers, and parents, and the volunteers of, and donors to, Surrey Festival of Dance, for a fabulous day (and night!) of dance.
Reminder to parents: Please send your photos right after events! (We still don’t have any of Ballet Baroque or Hunger of the Pine for this posting…) Thank you!
