Meredith Kalaman will be teaching Contemporary Dance in the Caulfield School of Summer Intensive Weeks D and 1
Meredith Kalaman has taught ballet, contemporary and modern dance, and improvisation, throughout the Lower Mainland for over ten years, parallel to her career as a professional contemporary dance performer and choreographer.
Meredith received her early dance training under the tutelage of Maria Lewis, alongside Terri-Lynne Banfield (Birkenhead) and Laurel Cabrita, at the former Pacific Ballet Theatre School. She went on to train in the Ballet British Columbia Mentorship Program until 2005. She was an apprentice with Coriograph Theatre (Cori Caulfield) from 2005 to 2006.
As a professional dancer, Meredith has performed with companies including Judith Marcuse Projects, Movent, Dancers Dancing, and the Karen Jamieson Dance Company, as well as in works by Noam Gagnon, Farley Johansson, John Ottmann, Peggy Baker, Kirsten Wiren, Kate Franklin, and Michael Kong.
As a choreographer, Meredith is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Chrystal Dance Prize from Dance Victoria. Her first full-length choreography, “Femme Fatales”, premiered at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and then toured to Berlin in August 2017 for a residency and four performances at Uferstudios.
Meredith’s choreography is being presented Canada’s international festival of contemporary dance, the Dancing on the Edge Festival, tonight, Friday, July 5 and tomorrow, Saturday, July 6 at the Firehall Arts Centre in Vancouver. Meredith and fellow CSD instructor Amber Funk Barton are both performing in “Body to Body” from 3-5pm on Saturday, July 13.
Most recently Meredith has been training in Countertechnique and will be travelling to San Francisco in August to further advance her understanding of this revolutionary contemporary dance training method that has re-invigorated how she approaches her work as both a dancer and a teacher.
We are so excited to have Meredith Kalaman teaching in the Intensive weeks and other guest teaching in the 2019-2020 dance year at Caulfield School of Dance.
