Ms. Yuan was appointed as a Vocational Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance in 2005; and has been a Dual Examiner since 2011. Ms. Yuan’s teaching credentials include: the National Ballet Professional Dancer Teaching Certification (N.B.S. P.D.T.C.), Imperial Society Teachers of Dancing, Advanced Certification and Associate Certification (A.I.S.T.D.), Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Certification (R.A.D. R.T.S.) and the Cecchetti Associate and Advanced Certificates.
Isabel Yuan performed under the name Kasumi Hayashi as a Principal Dancer for fifteen years with Japan’s Tani Ballet Company. After retiring from performing in 1995, Ms. Yuan came to Canada to study at the National Ballet School. After her teacher training, she taught Teacher Training at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, and students of both the Professional and General Divisions. Ms. Yuan moved to BC in the summer of 1998 and began teaching at Caulfield School of Dance that September.
Ms. Yuan holds a full-time faculty position with Goh Ballet Academy, Vancouver, and is in demand worldwide as a Master Teacher at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School of Canada, the Bejing National Ballet School, the National Ballet School of New Zealand, and others. With her international touring as an examiner and teacher, Ms. Yuan’s professional enrichment is constant.
Born in China, Ms. Yuan began professional Russian training at the Beijing Ballet Academy at the age of ten. After graduating with distinction in all subjects, she immediately went on to dance professionally in Japan. As a Principal with Japan’s Tani Ballet Company, and as a Guest Artist with the Houston Ballet Company in the U.S., the National Ballet of Canada, and others, she danced leading roles in the most famous classical ballets, such as Les Sylphides, Don Quixote, and Swan Lake.
Ms. Yuan has taught at Caulfield School of Dance for over twenty years and has been instrumental in the success of many of our graduates who are thriving in performing arts careers today. We are very grateful to have her expertise and passion for classical dance at this School!
