Royal Academy of Dance
The Lower Grades
The Royal Academy of Dance program begins with Primary R.AD., a two day per week introduction to classical dance training for children ages 6 to 8.
From Primary R.A.D. to Grade V, each R.A.D. program is two to three days per week with one syllabus course per week (two are possible if one is taken online) and one to three other co-requisite ballet courses (though taking additional optional courses is usually advantageous). The programs can be taken 100% in-studio or with one* online course.

* Online only instruction is available for the R.A.D. syllabus course only. It is available to take with any in-studio course/s that make/s a complete program; in other words, a student can take the in-studio R.A.D. course and the online course to make up for two out of the two to four courses required for a full program. One online RAD syllabus course can be taken per week as a student’s only ballet class, but will not constitute a full R.A.D. program nor will an examination be possible.
Students must take the co-requisite course/s for each R.A.D. program in order to attend any in-studio R.A.D. syllabus class.
These programs have Closed performance course options that prepare the students for performing in our annual spring stage production. The course usually also compete.
