On Sunday, the casts of “Grace 2” and “Idlewild Blues” gave wonderful performances in the Chilliwack Lions Club Music and Dance Festival Dance Honour Performance. Both groups, and Elle Cunnings, and Rebekah Gill were presented with special awards.
The Chilliwack Lions Club dance festival selected “Grace 2” choreographed by Cori Caulfield, to represent the Ballet Section (which includes all Ballet categories and the Modern and Contemporary categories) in the “No Borders” competition. The C.L.C. festival is paying the $150 entry fee for “Grace 2” to compete in the 2017 “No Borders Group Dance Challenge”. We are very grateful to the Chilliwack Lions Club dance festival for this extraordinary honour. “Grace 2” was also awarded a trophy and a $100 scholarship.
The “No Borders Group Dance Challenge” is hosted annually by the Surrey Festival of Dance. All the groups who compete in the “No Borders Group Dance Challenge” must have received 1st place in a Performing Arts BC registered competition. The event will be on May 13, 2017 at the Surrey Arts Centre Theatre. For more information, see Community Performances.
“Idlewild Blues” choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle, received the award for being selected the top Stage group number (which includes all Stage, Tap, and Song & Dance classes in the competition) at the Intermediate age level from the C.L.C. festival. “Idlewild Blues” was also awarded a trophy and a $100 scholarship.
Due to the snow, Elle Cunnings was unable to attend to receive her scholarship award on stage for being selected as the Provincial Runner-Up for Senior (ages 16 to 20) Modern and Contemporary Dance. Rebekah Gill accepted on Elle’s behalf when Rebekah was on stage to receive her own scholarship. Rebekah Gill received an Adjudicator’s Choice award for her work in the Senior Stage Provincial Technique Class, Age 20 and Under.
At the Honours Performance, we also learned that Carter Hayes placed 3rd for his Interpretive Ballet Solo 13 years, choreographed by Crystal Wills.
Addendum June 5: Kirsten Volberg placed 1st for her tap solo 15 years, choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle, at Chilliwack festival too!
It was a great day (even the weather was nice!) and all the performers were professional and supportive of each other, themselves, and their pieces. Thank you as always to the parents and the Chilliwack Lions Club Music and Dance Festival organizers and volunteers.
