Frequently Asked Questions
What to wear?
Please see our What to Wear page for recreational ballet and other dance classes, and R.A.D. Attire for Royal Academy of Dance classes.
Can I come in to the studio with my child?
We encourage children to be as independent as possible and having parents in the studio can be distracting for children. However, if your young child is new to dance classes and needs some help adjusting please ask the instructor about coming in for the first class.
What should my child bring to class?
Please make sure your child is in appropriate attire with the correct footwear and hair pulled back off the face. Dancers may bring a water bottle in to class, but do not need anything else. Please avoid bringing any toys or wearing any jewelry/accessories that may be distracting.
What types of classes are offered?
Ballet, Jazz/Lyrical, Modern/Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre/Voice/Acting, Acrobatics
Can my child try out a class?
Yes, we can enrol your child for a trial class if you are trying to find the right genre or level. Trial classes can be very useful for assessing a child’s suitability to a particular level. You will need to pay a Membership Fee of $35 + GST to be eligible for a trial. This is a one-time fee that is good for the rest of the season.
What are the fees?
Please see our Tuition page
How do I pay?
Payments for classes are made online through our parent portal by credit card. We cannot accept payments of cash or cheque in person at the school. If you need assistance making a payment, please feel free to come to the school during our office hours and we can help you through it. The first payment for Fall classes is due September 1. Payments for sessional courses are due the week before the session starts. You will be notified by email when it is time to pay for your courses.
Can I take the Adult classes if I’ve never danced before?
Our adult dance classes are appropriate for all levels including beginners. Our instructors are great at adjusting the level of the class for those in the room.
What is the cancellation/refund policy?
For full year programs, students are required to make a full year’s commitment as all programs are progressive. If for any reason a student discontinues a course or courses before the end of the year term, it is understood and agreed that the parent/guardian will give the School one month’s written notice by email; failure to attend classes does not constitute withdrawal; registration fees and deposits are not refundable; any unpaid fees (e.g. costume fees) must also be paid.
For sessional courses, you won’t be charged until the week before the session starts. There are no refunds after the start of classes.
How do I register for private lessons?
We offer private instruction for students wishing to have a solo choreographed for competition, or students wishing to have some one-on-one attention to further their technique. Please email us at admin@caulfield.bc.ca to set up private lessons.
