Ballet training is the indispensable foundation to all forms of Western theatrical dance. That is why we recommend that all performing arts students start early and keep it up.
Caulfield School of Dance offers ballet skills in our Baby Ballet courses for students aged 2 to 3 years, and Preschool Ballet for students ages 3 to 4 years.
Our Pre-Primary and Primary Ballet programs for ages 5 to 7 are also once-a-week courses.
These courses develop creativity, physical self-expression, flexibility, coordination, rhythm, and cooperation. Using both classical music and children’s rhymes and songs, these courses are composed of structured exercises sometimes “disguised” as games which encourage students to gain poise through classical positions and lines, and developing whole-body coordination through progressively more complex movement patterns.
All Preschool Ballet and Pre-Primary/Primary Ballet courses also prepare a performance piece for our annual spring stage production, an exciting experience that develops memory, musicality, team building, and self-confidence. Baby Ballet students perform for invited guests in a studio showing during the last class of each 10 class session.
At age 7 (or age 6 – with experience and instructor permission only) students can enrol in a Royal Academy of Dance Ballet program or continue with a one class per week Basic Ballet program.
Private or Semiprivate instruction available* in all disciplines to develop skills or to prepare performing pieces.
* Subject to scheduling availability.
