Royal Academy of Dance
The Vocational Grades
The Vocational Grades are highly technical and demanding Royal Academy of Dance syllabi designed to prepare students for careers (performance and/or instruction) in classical dance. A six day per week program of study is recommended at these levels although reduced programs are possible.
In the Vocational Grades, Character Dance and Free Movement are incorporated throughout the syllabi rather than examined as separate elements.
All Vocational Grades syllabi have a mandatory pointe work component for female students.
The Vocational Grades syllabi are:
Intermediate Foundation Prerequisite: none.
Intermediate Prerequisite: none
Successful examination in the Intermediate syllabus allows for Royal Academy of Dance Membership which is a prerequisite for pursuing Royal Academy of Dance teaching certification.
Advanced Foundation Prerequisite: Successful examination in the Intermediate syllabus.
Advanced I Prerequisite: Successful examination in the Intermediate syllabus or Foundation for Advanced.
Advanced II Prerequisite: Successful examination in the Advanced I syllabus.
Solo Seal Prerequisite: Successful examination in the Advanced II syllabus examination with a result of Distinction.

These programs have Closed performance course options that prepare the students for performing in our annual spring stage production. The course usually also compete.
