R.A.D. programs

The Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) is one of the world’s leading Ballet training organizations, offering an internationally recognized, progressive syllabus that develops strong technique, artistry, and confidence.

At Caulfield School of Dance, dancers progress through age-appropriate levels under the guidance of certified R.A.D. instructors, with optional examinations available throughout the program.

Lower Grades (Intro to Grade 1 – Grade 5)

  • Progressive Ballet training for ages 6+.
  • R.A.D. syllabus classes combined with Ballet technique.
  • Classical Ballet and Character Dance included.
  • Optional examinations by teacher recommendation.
  • Placement is based on teacher assessment and readiness.

Vocational Grades

Designed for dedicated dancers pursuing advanced Ballet training.

  • Intermediate Foundation through Advanced levels.
  • Advanced technique, artistry, conditioning, and pointe work.
  • Preparation for R.A.D. examinations and professional opportunities.
  • Director approval required for entry and pointe work.

Character Dance

Character Dance is a traditional European folk dance style that forms an important part of the R.A.D. syllabus from Grades 1–5. It develops musicality, coordination, rhythm, and performance quality while complementing classical Ballet training.

Important Information

  • First Pointe Shoes – Director approval is required before your first pointe shoe fitting
  • Optional Examinations – Students may enter R.A.D. examinations when recommended by their instructor.
  • Performance Classes – R.A.D. classes focus on syllabus training. Dancers wishing to perform should also enroll in a Ballet Performance class selected by the Directors
