Jocelyn Gauthier B.F.A. (Acting)
Voice, Musical Theatre, Acting
A classically trained actor, singer, and musician, Jocelyn has played roles from Shakespeare to Broadway musicals, working in major professional theatres across Canada, as well as in film and television. A fiercely versatile and a talented triple threat performer, she is an artist who can transition seamlessly between mediums including film, television, theatre, and voice-over.
Most recently, Jocelyn starred as Molly in the Canadian premiere of Ghost: The Musical with Drayton Entertainment, and had roles in Christmas Under The Stars with Hallmark Movies, and Firefly Lane, a new Netflix series. She also starred as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, for which she won an Ovation Award, E.V. Young Award, and Aida Broadbent Award, as Maia in the World Premiere of Nicholas Lloyd Webber’s new musical The Little Prince (Theatre Calgary), and as Kate in a very successful short film Molly, which has been receiving tremendous praise in the festival circuit. In 2020, Jocelyn will be playing Nicola in the Arts Club’s brand new production of Kinky Boots.
A dual citizen of the United States and Canada, Jocelyn moved to Vancouver upon receiving a President’s Entrance Scholarship to study performing arts. She trained as an actor in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting program at the University of British Columbia, and while still attending university, she was cast as the lead in a feature film, and was also a Top 10 Finalist on the CBC show Triple Sensation, winning an award for Most Outstanding Actress. She graduated from the prestigious U.B.C. conservatory program with distinction, and was immediately accepted into both the American Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (AAMDA), and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) in the One Year Masters Classical Acting Program, the latter of which she trained at for a short part of 2010. Since graduating and continuing to work steadily in theatre and film, Jocelyn understands that constant and rigorous training is critical to the development of her craft. In addition to working professionally with many elite Broadway and Canadian directors and choreographers, Jocelyn has also taken masterclasses with Matthew Barry, the L.A. casting director of The Notebook, Tony Award winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, Shaw Festival director Tim Carroll, and many of Vancouver’s highly respected casting directors.
Other credits include: Donna in Mamma Mia! (TUTS), Vi Petty in The Buddy Holly Story (Globe Theatre), The Way To Freedom (Short), Rock Legends (Drayton Entertainment/Chemainus Theatre Festival), Footloose (Chemainus Theatre Festival), Strawman (Short), M&M’s (National Commercial), Susan in Snapshots: A Musical Scrapbook (Presentation House, Canadian premiere), Les Miserables (Arts Club Theatre), From Broadway, With Love (Circle Bright Productions), Beatrice in Unity 1918 (UBC), Anais Pnin in The Idiots Karamazov (UBC), Rose in Ruddigore (UBC G&S Society), and Anatasia in Old Goriot (WCT Gold and UBC).
Aside from acting, Jocelyn is a classically trained lyric/belt soprano, pianist, and flutist, and has trained in ballet, jazz, tap, and hip-hop. When not engaged in performing herself, she teaches children ages 3 – 18 in musical theatre, singing, and acting. As Jocelyn had her first lead role in a musical at the age of ten, she enjoys giving back to the community by passing on her craft to others, and is ardent about providing training opportunities to the young people of the world.
We are so fortunate to have Ms. Jocelyn Gauthier leading our Musical Theatre and Voice Department.
