Faculty for Caulfield School of Dance Summer Intensives: Kirsten Wicklund

Kirsten Wicklund teaches the first week of the Caulfield School of Dance 2020 Ballet and Contemporary Intensive Weeks

Ballet BC star Kirsten Wicklund will be teaching Ballet including Pointe, and Contemporary Technique, Contemporary Ballet Repertoire, and Yoga, in the Ballet and Contemporary Intensive Week A, at Caulfield School of Dance August 17 to 21.

This summer, we are returning to the use of our beautiful facility with new health and safety measures that include disinfecting between classes and each student having twice the recommended Distancing space in classes.

The Ballet and Contemporary Summer Intensive gives aspiring ballet and contemporary dancers daily classes in ballet, contemporary, and repertoire. There will also be classes in conditioning instructed by the teachers in their fields of expertise such as Pilates, Progressing Ballet Technique, etc. The faculty includes international guest artists. More information on other Summer faculty is posted on this website and our Facebook page.

We are very exited to have Peter Smida and Kirsten Wicklund teaching for Week A. You may have seen Kirsten’s heart-wrenching protrayal of ‘Juliet’ in Ballet BC’s 2018 and 2020 productions of Romeo & Juliet by Medhi Walerski.

Kirsten Wicklund has been a full time artist with Ballet BC since 2014. Kirsten appreciates the collaborative nature of Ballet BC and the opportunity to create new works as well as perform the company’s existing repertoire. She continues to choreograph, teach workshops and adjudicate across Canada and the United States. She is a certified yoga teacher and studies and practices a variety of movement languages. Kirsten is passionate about creating works for live performance. Kirsten received the only Outstanding Choreographer Award at the Toronto Youth American Grand Prix Semi-Final this spring and this Tuesday, July 28, you can see her new solo on Josh Beamish, Artistic Director of MOVETHECOMPANY in an Open Rehearsal event.

Kirsten has a distinctive choreographic voice influenced by having danced in works by Lesley Telford, Medhi Walerski, William Forsythe, Emmanuel Gat, Wen Wei Wang, Cayetano Soto, Adi Salant, Aszure Barton, Company 605, Johan Inger, Serge Bennathan, Jorma Elo, Jacopo Godani, Walter Mateini, Emily Molnar, Crystal Pite, Ohad Naharin, Sharon Eyal, and others. With her background and experience in yoga instruction she brings a valuable wholistic approach to her teaching of young people.
