Successes at Surrey Festival of Dance Ballet Section

Caitlyn Woo, the 2018 Intermediate Ballet Provincial Representative for Surrey Festival of Dance

Very special congratulations to Cailyn Woo, age 13, who is selected as the Age 13 to 15 Provincial Ballet Representative, and Sabina Nelson, age 12, who is selected as the Age 12 and under Provincial Ballet Representative, from Surrey Festival of Dance to the Performing Arts BC competition to be held this year in Victoria, BC.

Special congratulations to our two group numbers that competed:

Jocelyn Wozencroft’s “Ballet Baroque” at Surrey Festival of Dance

“Pair Bonds” choreographed by Cori Caulfield, and “Ballet Baroque” choreographed by Jocelyn Wozencroft, danced by the Half Day Program, both placed 1st and received trophies for Contemporary Ballet and Classical Ballet Groups respectively.

“Pair Bonds” will also receive a special award at the Surrey Festival of Dance Honours Performance, Saturday, May 12.

Both numbers were also invited with full scholarship from Surrey Festival of Dance to the “No Borders Group Dance Challenge“.

Congratulations are due to all of the Caulfield dancers who competed in the Surrey Festival of Dance Ballet Section, April 2 to 8, 2018. All had wonderful performances and received some very exciting results:

Kaia Neal Solo Set Variation – Pointe 13 yrs (Don Quixote) 3rd
Kaia Neal Solo Contemporary Ballet 13 years 3rd
Katherine Koh Solo Interpretive 12 years 3rd
Sabina Nelson Solo Set Ballet Demi-Pointe 12 years 3rd
Sabina Nelson Solo Ballet Open Demi-Pointe 12 years 2nd
Sabina Nelson Solo Contemporary Ballet 12 years 2nd
Sabina Nelson Solo Variation 12 years: Fairy Doll 1st T
Lorena Morissette Solo Set Variation 14 yrs (Sleeping Beauty) 3rd
Hailey Rekunyk Solo Variation en Pointe 16 – 20 years: Kitri 3rd
Hailey Rekunyk Solo Interpretive 16 – 20 years 1st T
Zoe Sato-Chin Solo Set Variation Demi-Pointe 13 years (Giselle) 1st T
Zoe Sato-Chin Solo Ballet Open Demi-Pointe 1st T
Caitlyn Woo Solo Set Variation – Pointe 13 years (Don Quixote) 1st
Caitlyn Woo Solo Ballet – Pointe 13 years 1st T
Caitlyn Woo Solo Contemporary Ballet 13 years 2nd
Caitlyn Woo Solo Variation en Pointe 13 years (Swan Lake) 1st T

Claire Aidouni, due to a stubbed toe that turned out to be broken, was not able to compete with either her solos, or groups.

We are very proud of ALL of our Surrey Festival of Dance Ballet Section competitors. Though not always recognized with a top three placement, every one of our dancers performed with grace and commitment and were exemplary in their behaviour backstage too. That’s what it’s all about!
