WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS: lots of energy, snacks, drink (water allowed in dancing area only), great attitude, smiles and of course don’t forget your tap shoes.
FYI: We usually designate one or two weekends during the summer to set choreography, then selected Sundays in the Fall. These dates well in advance so that you know what your time commitment will be. Please see TENTATIVE rehearsal schedule below.
CHOREOGRAPHER: Lisa Dew is the Team Canada TAP choreographer for B.C. Lisa Dew is a CDTA Tap and Stage Division accredited teacher. She opened Lisa’s School of Dance in 1985 with just 10 students and over 29 years later has seen 1000’s of students walk through her doors! Her professional teaching career has evolved, specializing in Tap and Musical Theatre. Having studied with many of the industries Tap greats including, Brenda Buffalino, Heather Cornell, Lynn Dally, Savion Glover, Jeni Legon, Diane Walker, throughout Canada and the US, Lisa has honed her skills as an award winning choreographer, performer and adjudicator. Lisa is also very familiar with the World Championships and Team Canada she herself has attended in the past and she has had many of her students represent Canada at the official World Championship. With her positive outlook on dance as well as her talent I am sure we will once again have a very talented and successful Tap Team. We welcome Lisa to 2015 Team Canada as part of our elite staff of professional choreographers.
BALLET, JAZZ AND MODERN:
This year we will not be sending a Ballet, Jazz and Modern team out of British Columbia. We already have a Hip Hop Team that has already started to train and will be sending a Tap Team this year out of BC. Since each Nation is only allowed to send a max of three teams to the World Championships, the Ballet, Jazz and Modern team will come out of another Province. This will give other elite dancers in Canada a chance to dance on the World Stage. BJM dancers if you are interested in auditioning in another province please let me know. (TENTATIVE: EDMONTON) If you are a tapper I look forward to your return to Team Canada on the Tap Team! Best regards, Bonnie Dyer Team Canada National Director (IDO) International Dance Org. There is a family room which will be given to families that have one parent going and two or more children.Dancers do not have to have a parent come with them, however, if you are sending your child with the team we ask you to talk with a parent that is going to chaperone them.
We pay per person for everything, so there is no bringing on people onto our ground transportation or hotel rooms. Also, the ground transportation and hotels are all booked through IDO – I cannot call up and book on my own.
