Body Talk:
Free Dance Workshop for youths with choreographer Wen Wei Wang.
Presented by Wen Wei Dance in association with the Firehall Arts Centre

This dance workshop, open to youths aged 15 and up, will explore various styles and forms including elements of Tai Chi, martial arts, Peking Opera and ballet technique. Through improvisation, dialogue and experiments with physical language, the breath of the rhythm and release technique will be the foundation for creating unique movements to express emotional meanings through the body and mind.
Following the workshop, participants will give a public performance as part of the 2015 Dancing on the Edge Festival on July 2 and 3 at 8:30pm.
Some previous experience in dance required.

About Wen Wei Wang
Wen Wei Wang began dancing at an early age in China, where he was born and raised. He trained and danced professionally with the Langzhou Song and Dance Company. In 1991 he came to Canada and joined the Judith Marcuse Dance Company, followed by seven years dancing with Ballet British Columbia. In 2000 he received the Clifford E. Lee Choreographic Award and since then has choreographed for the Alberta Ballet, Ballet BC, Ballet Jorgen, Dancers Dancing, North West Dance Projects, the Vancouver and San Francisco Operas, and Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal (BJM). Wang received the 2006 Isadora Award for Excellence in Choreography, the 2009 Rio Tinto Alcan Performing Arts Award, the 2013 Chrystal Dance Prize, and a 2013 RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrants Award.
In 2003, he founded Wen Wei Dance, and since then has choreographed seven full-length works for the company.
Wen Wei Wang is an Associate Dance Artist of the National Arts Centre.
