As seen in the Tri-Ciry News Nolen Dubuc, age 9, will spend his summer singing, dancing, and acting on stage as Michael Banks in the Theatre Under the Stars production of the beloved Disney musical Mary Poppins.
Nolen has been training in acting and all forms of dance at Port Moody’s Caulfield School of Dance since 2012. And he has been training in voice with Caulfield School of Dance voice instructor Dr. Gina Oh since 2015 and also started weekly voice lessons with Melody Courage in the fall of 2016.
Nolen auditioned on January 18 for T.U.T.S. and was ecstatic to receive a call-back. His second audition also went well. And then on Tuesday, March 7, Nolen got the news that he had the part of Michael.
The rehearsal schedule for the show will be intense. Nolen may even have to give up being in some of his group numbers for competitions and yearend performing, but being in a Theatre Under the Stars show is an amazing opportunity especially for such a young aspiring performer.
Mary Poppins will open on July 11, and it runs on odd days in July and even days in August until August 18 on the historic Malkin Bowl theatre stage in Stanley Park.
One of Nolen’s dance teachers, and Caulfield School director Cori Caulfield says, “Nolen really wants to be a professional triple-threat performer one day and doing a T.U.T.S. show is such a great step on that path. We are very proud of Nolen and can’t wait to see him in this show!”
Congratulations Nolen!
