2018 – 2019 Group Mentions of Honour
Some years, a group or groups, distinguish themselves; their instructors submit them for special recognition. This year there were nine(!) groups that merited mentions of honour:
The Half Day program dancers were consistently hard working and dedicated, remounting “Pair Bonds” and preparing a new piece. Their creativity and mental flexibility made every performance of “Under the Moonlight” special. (And a special thanks to Shanna for her pointe shoe dying research!) — Cori Caulfield
I loved working with my Jazz Technique 1 class, and the P.T.D. Tap (“Zoot Suit Riot”), and the P.T.D. Contemporary (“I Might Be Wrong”) groups. — Hailley Caulfield Postle
As a whole, my P.T.D. Musical Theatre class really worked hard this year tackling a lot of new things (cheer stunts, hard singing, etc.), and I thought they showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity. And even though my Closed Musical Theatre 2 class (“School of Rock”) was a handful, I really thought in the end they pulled everything together and gave great performances. — Jocelyn Gauthier
It has been so much fun bringing out all of the (P.T.D. Hip Hop) alter egos in “We Run This” and I love that each dancer brings something special to the table. It has been a pleasure watching this group slay this piece all year! And working with the P.T.D. Acro Performance dancers was challenging at times but the end result was worth every ounce of hard work put into it. A big ‘thank you’ to everyone for giving the piece their all and helping me bring this “Dark World” to life. — Lauren Taylor
My Tuesday Pre-Primary Ballet group who performed in “True Colours” may be very young, but as you can see, they stand out. These little ones have worked so hard this year. My whole Ballet Performance 1/2 group (“Up And Away”) have worked very hard this year and are a wonderful group to acknowledge as well. — Julia Zennstrom

Azra Collier Young Scholarship Award
Cori Caulfield has given a scholarship in the memory of Azra Collier Young every year since her death at the age of 14 in the summer of 2009. Azra had a generosity of spirit that is rare in this world and a love for children and dance that she hoped to make a career from.
“The 2017 recipient of the Azra Award, Catherine Eckman, and the 2018 recipient of the Azra Award, Shanna Lilley, have again this year distinguished themselves for their work as teaching assistants and trainees. They will split this year’s award. Shanna and Catherine are both very special young women who demonstrate a real gift for teaching. They have given generously of her time and passion to helping younger dancers succeed by being devoted teaching trainees. Shanna has a love for dance and has worked very hard this year to improve. And so she has. And Shanna has grown so much this year as a person. I feel that her work to help others has been a big part of that. Catherine, has taken on tremendous responsibility with Musical Theatre courses, including contributing to chorography; and Acting, and Vocal Technique courses, again this year and your dedication is inspiring.” — Cori Caulfield
Catherine Eckman
Shanna Lilley*

The Donna Knapp Scholarship Award
“For six years, Donna encouraged and guided Caulfield’s students, one of whom was six-year-old Hailley Caulfield who would go on to become an acclaimed professional dancer and the Head of our extraordinarily successful Tap Department. Donna’s legacy of excellence is palpable every day at this School. Donna has given a scholarship to the students of Caulfield School of Dance, principally, those students pursuing ‘Musical Theatre’ and ‘Tap Dance’, Donna’s special loves. However, the award is open to students of all the performing arts at the discretion of the School faculty.
Today, at the age of seventy-four, Donna is one of the thousands of Canadians suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Her husband, John, tells us she is happy and continues to dance – whenever the mood takes her, which is often.”
The 2019 recipient is anonymous.*
