Caulfield School of Dance student Sofia Slater is the Youth Assistant Stage Manger and Accessibility Coordinator for  “Concord Floral” at the Roundhouse, January 25 -29

Concord Floral is a one million-square-foot abandoned greenhouse and hangout for neighbourhood teens. When two friends stumble upon a terrible secret buried there, they go looking for answers and set off a chain of events that can’t be stopped. Told by an ensemble of ten teengage performers and set in contemporary Vaughan, Concord Floral re-imagines Boccaccio’s medieval allegory The Decameron, in which ten teens must flee a mysterious plague they have brought upon themselves.

This 2015 Dora Winner for Outstanding New Play has been produced now in many paces to great acclaim. C0-creator Erin Brubacher again directs this upcoming production of this amazing play with this local cast.

“Artfully structured, yet full of suspense, with dialogue that shifts smoothly between the poetic and observational. It’s got style and substance—and is scary as all get out.”

– THE GLOBE AND MAIL

“Packs a theatrical and emotional punch”

★★★★ “The best new play of the year”

In an effort to make the PuSh Festival and specifically Concord Floral more accessible to everyone, this year there will be American Sign Language and Visual-Eye (for the blind) interpretation on the first night of the show at PuSh, and on the closing night at PuSh. Sofia has been the communicator between the cast and the interpreters for Concord Floral.
Sofia says: “Concord Floral has taught me a lot about how intense the schedule of a professional theatre production is. We’ve had around 34 hours of rehearsal each week, since the beginning of December – and that doesn’t include memorizing any lines or  character work for the cast members. I am really enjoying my time here, and I have found it interesting to do backstage work as I’ve never done anything like that before.”
Congratulations Sofia!
