CSD 2018 Alumna Michelle Liu is featured in the 2019 UBC Ballet Competitive Team Calendar
Caulfield School of Dance Alumna (2018) Michelle Liu, is loving her first year in the Bachelor of Media Studies program at University of British Columbia.
Michelle says “One of my favourite classes in the program that I have taken so far is Creative Writing for New Media 213. In this class, I learned how to write for various exciting digital platforms, such as podcasts, and virtual reality video games. I have also been taking film, journalism, and academic writing classes alongside creative writing. Ultimately, the BMS program has introduced me to a wide breadth of career options that I hadn’t even considered beforehand!
“In addition to academics, I am also very excited to be part of the UBCPINK Campus Team. The UBCPINK Campus Team promotes and markets the Victoria’s Secret PINK brand on the UBC Vancouver campus through on-campus events, social media giveaway contests, and other marketing endeavors sponsored by VSPINK. This has been very fun for me, as well as educational, as I am gaining major insight into how a large company such as Victoria’s Secret markets their products to a worldwide audience. In my first term, I focused on marketing the VSPINK brand to UBC freshman, as well as assisting in campus and in-store event planning and execution. This term, as a UBCPINK Social Media Strategist, my job is to aid in brainstorming and executing social media campaigns on various UBCPINK social channels, and interact with followers on the platforms to boost social engagement! I highly enjoy this work, and this experience has further cemented my plans to pursue digital marketing as a career.

Of her time at UBC so far, Michelle says “I have learned and experienced so much in this short time!”
“I also auditioned to be part of the UBC Ballet Competitive Team, and I have danced with the team at UBC events, VanCity Project, and we are also competing in the Surrey Festival of Dance later on this term with both contemporary and ballet numbers. I found my love of dance at Caulfield, so I’m very grateful for the opportunity to continue dancing competitively in university and maintain my dance skills that I had acquired there. It also keeps me active at the same time! The community is absolutely wonderful as well, just like at CSD. I still bring my Caulfield dance bag with me to every UBC Ballet class and practice, which makes me feel like I’m right back home.”
CSD Alumna Sara Nussle was also very active with the UBC Ballet Competitive Team. After this semester, Michelle hopes her summer will include an internship with a publicity company, and more business courses at UBC in pursuit of her minor in Commerce.
We are so happy for you Michelle. Keep learning, keep dancing!
