Nathalie Brown during the 2015 Alberta Ballet School summer program

Nathalie Brown, age 14, was the only C.S.D. student who auditioned for the Vancouver Ballet Society’s prestigious and wonderful Spring Seminar. Nathalie will benefit from 7 full days of her two week Spring Break training with Elena Glurdjidze and Colleen Thomas. Ms. Glurdjidze trained at the Vaganova Academy in St-Petersburg from age 12 before her career with English National Ballet as Lead Principal Ballerina. She is a graduate of The Royal Ballet School Professional Dancers Teaching Course – Professional Classical Ballet Teacher and has taught at the The Royal Ballet Summer School, English National Ballet Summer School. Ms. Thomas is a New York based international contemporary choreographer and performing artist. She is an Associate Professor of Professional Practice in Dance at Barnard College of Columbia University and has been an important part of Nina Wiener Dance Company, Donald Byrd/The Group, Bebe Miller Dance Company, and Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Bill Young/Colleen Thomas & Co., among others.

Nathalie Brown, Kaia Goddard, age 13, Lorena Morissette, age 13, Holly Reyburn, age 13, and Nathan Piasecki, age 15, were all invited to attend the School of Alberta Ballet’s Summer Intensive after auditioning in October.

Kaia Neal in class at Caulfield School of Dance

Kaia Neal, age 12, was the only C.S.D. student who auditioned for the 2017 Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Professional Division Summer Session. Kaia will spend July 2 to 29 training intensively in ballet and pointe technique, character dance, and modern dance with classes in historical dance, conditioning, music, repertoire, Spanish dance, improvisation, choreography, visual art, dance history, creative movement, nutrition, and performance enhancement.

Kaia says, “arriving at the audition I was nervous that it would be too difficult, but it felt very natural. Once we came together to do centre practice I realized that everything had gone by so quickly, I forgot about my fear…. The day I found out that I had been excepted I was so excited. I felt so happy to be one step closer to my biggest goal of becoming a professional ballerina…. to anyone thinking about going to future auditions,  I would say to just go for it, because if you don’t step out of your comfort zone, you may never know what you can accomplish.”

We post auditions, scholarship application information, etc. here and on our Facebook page regularly. (Tip: You can put a key word like AUDITION or APPLY into the SEARCH THIS WEBSITE BOX  on every page of the CSD site to help you find announcements  about upcoming opportunities.)

We are very proud of our students for auditioning for these programs and wish them all wonderful experiences  in their invitational programs!
