Description of Dance Courses for Ages 2 to 5 years:

Baby Ballet introduces the very young child to ballet in 10 week sessions. As well as specific dance skills, 2, 3, and 4 year-old boys and girls develop creativity, rhythm, flexibility, coordination, self-expression, and cooperation through structured play, nursery rhymes and songs, and exercises “disguised” as games. The children also learn a short “number” to perform in the studio at the end of each session. Performing for invited guests is a great preparation for performing in a theatre show when they are a little older because it develops self-confidence and memory skills, not to mention cooperation, listening skills, and more!

Preschool Ballet introduces children ages 3 to 4 to ballet in a September to June course that culminates in a performance on stage. Using classical music, nursery rhymes, and songs, the September to June course develops creativity, rhythm, flexibility, coordination, self-expression, and cooperation through structured play and exercises “disguised” as games. The boys and girls also learn a piece to perform in our annual, full-scale, spring production. Performing develops memory (not to mention cooperation, listening, and more!) and self-confidence and is an exciting and gratifying adventure for you and your child.

Preschool Stage/Tap
is a course that introduces Stage dance and Tap dance to children ages 3 to 4. The children perform a piece in our annual spring stage production, that draws upon what they learn in the year which include skills of Jazz dance, Hip Hop, and Stage (a term encompassing a range of Musical Theatre dance styles), some Modern/Contemporary dance technique and basic Acrobatics skills, along with Tap dance. Tap is a style of dance that uses metal plates called taps on the soles of shoes so the dancer is also a musician. Tap is a fun dance style that is an integral part of the musical theatre performer’s skill set and gives all performers better musicality and greater understanding of rhythm and style.
