Dario Dinuzzi wil teach a Ballet Masterclass at Caulfield School of Dance on Friday, December 1, 2017
A native of Italy, Dario Dinuzzi, was a juggler and flame-spitter before he was a professional ballet dancer.
Dario has danced with Aterballetto (Italy), Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, Ballet BC, and Tanz Luzern Theater (Switzerland). Choreographing since 2007, his short works have been presented in Canada, Italy, Switzerland and US.
Dario has had the opportunity to connect and interact with artists coming from diverse cultures including Bryan Arias, Gioconda Barbuto, Serge Bennathan, Mauro Bigonzetti, Aszure Burton, Stijn Cellis, Jacopo Godani, Jiri Kylian, Johan Inger, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Walter Matteini, Emily Molnar, Kevin O’Day, Georg Reischl, Po-Cheng Tsai, and Medhi Walerski. Each of them has left a strong mark on his dancing and understanding of movement.
In 2010, while continuing to dance professionally, Dario began working as a ballet teacher and coach. He has currently taught at national and international level at respected institutions including ArtsUmbrella, Ballet BC, Harbour Dance, LamonDance, Modus Operandi (Vancouver, BC), Ballet Preljocaj (France), Ballet Basel and Tanz Luzern Theater (Switzerland), Ballet Mannheim (Germany), and S.U.N.Y. (Purchase, NY).
In 2016 he was selected along with Sada Mamedova and Dor Mamalia to represent Tanz Luzerner Theatre in the Diana Vishneva Dance Festival “Context” in Moscow. In 2017 Dario collaborated with Barbara Hennig Marques creating “A piece of clay”, a 20 minute solo performance which has become an installation in the Südpol Center for Performing Arts in Luzern.
While freelancing in Vancouver and further developing his training (Gaga, Hofesh Shechter, 605 Collective, James O’Hara, Johannes Wieland and Evangelous Poulinas, etc…), he had the fortune to collaborate as a dancer, teacher and choreographer with Action at a Distance, Aeriosa, ArtsUmbrella, LamonDance, Mascall Dance, Modus Operandi, Plastic Orchid Factory, Small Stages and The Underground Circus.
Furthermore he has been Artist in Residence with Ballet BC for two years and board member at C.A.D.A./West.
Dario’s class will share notions of technique using balletic language to develop a clear understanding of how to access movement. Focusing on understanding where the movement comes from versus looking for the final shape of a step is a clear shift that shows
He sees his class as another tool for improving the dancers’ knowledge as movers and how connected we can be with our bodies and how much we can respect it. Dario says: “Through a vocabulary of movement that is commonly known, we can learn how to be versatile and move through different styles.”
