Oct. 15: RWB Summer Session Audition

Kaia Neal at the 2017 RWB School’s Professional Division Summer Session; photos by Kaia’s classmate Lily

Kaia Neal, age 12, was the only C.S.D. student who auditioned for the 2017 Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Professional Division Summer Session. From July 2 to 29, 2017. Kaia trained intensively in ballet and pointe technique, character dance, and modern dance with classes in historical dance, conditioning, music, repertoire, Spanish dance, improvisation, choreography, visual art, dance history, creative movement, nutrition, and performance enhancement.

Of her first invitational residential training experience Kaia said, “At first I was nervous about being on my own away from home, except for when I was in class I forgot about everything else and focused on learning and doing my best. As time went on I met new friends and started to feel more comfortable. I really learned a lot from my teachers. They were all very encouraging and helpful. It was really cool to see dancers from different places like Japan, New York, Kansas, China and all over Canada. It was an amazing experience I am glad I got the opportunity.”

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) School Professional Division will hold auditions Sunday, October 15, 2017 in VANCOUVER
Location:
Scotiabank Dance Centre
677 Davie Street
Vancouver, BC V6B 2G6
The Audition Tour is the first step for students to join one of the RWB School’s three full-time professional programs: Ballet Academic (ages 10+), Aspirant (post-secondary), and Teacher Training (post-secondary).
Students who are unable to attend an audition may send in a video application, which will be accepted until May 1, 2018.
Auditions include a Q & A session as well as a master class in some cities.
After auditioning, students who are identified as having potential for professional training are invited to attend Summer Session, which acts as the second phase of the audition process. Running throughout the month of July 2018 in Winnipeg, Summer Session allows students to experience life at the RWB. After this month of intensive training, students who are deemed to be a fit for one of the RWB School’s professional programs will be accepted into Regular Session, running from September 2018 to June 2019.
RWB School Professional Division Audition Tour has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada and the Manitoba Arts Council. The RWB School also gratefully acknowledges the support of our 2017 Audition Tour Presenting Sponsor: Investors Group.
