Admission is by donation. (We hope to pay for the facility rental so we can put 100% of revenues from the Raffle Tickets and the Silent Auction towards our Scholarship Fund.

* Note re December 12 performing: Many classes will perform selections for the showings at the event. If your child is performing December 12, you will receive a request for your Parental permission soon. Orders of Showings and “call” times will be distributed shortly after and posted at the Important Dates posting on the website.

Bake Sale and Concession:

The Bake Sale and Concession at last year’s event was a HUGE success. Thanks to all those bakers who participated last year, your efforts were thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed

(especially by those that got their Christmas baking done by you at the Bake Sale table!).

There will be a sign-up sheet in the School lobby for baking items soon or you can contact Christine Taitinger directly at bctaitinger@gmail.com to let her know you will be donating some wonderful yummy baked goods to share! Thank you!!!!

Silent Auction:

If you or your company has anything to donate, please contact Karen Gill at karenjgill@shaw.ca describing the item and its approximate retail value. ALL donations are greatly appreciated.

If you know of a company or individual who you think may wish to donate to us, please ask at the office for a letter to give them. Thank you.

All donations are acknowledged at the auction and in the souvenir program for the yearend production. (We also welcome display advertising for our yearend production program.) All our scholarship recipients write letters of thanks to donors thanking them for their donation.

Huge thanks to the parent volunteers who have already been working hard to make the Christmas Party and Fund Raiser a success. If you are interested in contributing with your time and/or ideas to the fund raising efforts for the School, please advise us in the office.

All help is greatly appreciated! THANK YOU!

Classes on Saturday, December 12:

ALL Saturday classes with start times up to 12:45pm will run as normally scheduled at the School. Exceptions:

11:30-12:00             Vocal Tech
12:00- 12:45             Musical Theatre 3/4
12:45 – 1:30              Musical Theater 1/2
These classes will meet with Dr. Gina at Moody Middle at 12pm to do class there.

Note for Saturday Jazz Technique: please ask for an appropriate make-up class for the December 12 class. Thank you.

Our scholarship fund is crucial. While our taxes support high level sports programs and
facilities in our community, arts training is instead taxed! Your Guidebook gives detailed
criteria for scholarships which are for dedicated students of all disciplines aged nine and
over, and Grade I and above R.A.D. program students.

If your child is performing December 12, please ensure that s/he participates in any normally scheduled classes at the School AND is ready at the venue well prior to their “call” time, which will depend on which of the showing times s/he is programmed in.

We hope you enjoy this day and thank you in advance for your support of our young performers!

  1. Costumes:

The process of amassing the over one thousand costume pieces that our performers will wear this year for performances is well under way. We try whenever possible to take measurements for costuming during class time – another reason that attendance at all classes is so important. If you miss being measured, you may be require to take your child to the home of the person making his/her costume.

This year we are reusing the following costumes from last year’s “Body of Work” shows:

Last year’s R.A.D. Grade I’s “Party Polka” tutus will be used by this year’s Grade II’s.
Last year’s R.A.D. Grade II’s “Lightning Feet Polka” tutus will be used by this year’s Grade III’s.
Last year’s R.A.D. Grade III’s “In Blood and Bone” white tutus will be used by this year’s Grade IV’s.
Last year’s “Cello Song/Lend a Hand” costumes will be used by this year’s Grade V+ R.A.D. Classical Repertoire class.
Last year’s “Come Get It/Dream Machine” will hopefully be used by a jazz group this year.
Last year’s hip hop groups’ “Rhythm Nation” and “Classic/Symphony of Cells” black harem pants will be used by this year’s Hip Hop 4 group.
Last year’s “Itty Bittty Kiddies” tap costumes will hopefully be used by one of the Primary Ballet classes.

Please:

  • if you are re-using one of the above costumes, ensure it is in perfect condition and still fits your child! Let us know if it there are any problems as soon as possible.
  • if you have one of the above costumes but will not be re-using it, bring it in so we can ensure fit/try to sell them for you. Please also make sure your child’s name is in/attached to the costume.

Please help us in our efforts to reuse costumes: Always keep your costumes in excellent condition even after you think you will no longer be using them. If you wish to hang onto costumes or dance shoes that you no longer need, we may ask you in the future if you would be willing to donate, rent, or sell them. If you do not wish to keep costumes that you no longer need, please donate them to our Costume Bank*. Thank you.

* Sometime we can use costumes from our Costume Bank to reduce costumes costs for families. Some costumes from the bank are previously used; if you receive a used costume for your child’s use this year, the cost is greatly reduced from the original price. Some are from previous year’s numbers but were never worn; usually you pay less for these than the original price too.

  1. Upcoming Performances

Friday, November 20, many of our students will perform in one of two shows:

  • at 7:15pm at Michael J. Fox Theatre for the VanCity project. Tickets will be available at our C.S.D. office by November 16.
  • at 6-9pm at the Abby Arts Centre, (more information at the CSD website). Our four team members, Rebekah Gill, Jaelan Mills, Tiana Pazdirek, and Kirsten Volberg should have tickets for purchase. Tickets are also available at these dance wear suppliers:
Limbers – Surrey          Dance Box – Langley             Jazz Ma Tazz – Abbotsford

Tickets may be available at the door if the show is not sold out before.

Saturday, December 12, as mentioned, many of our students will perform at the annual Caulfield School of Dance Christmas Party & Fund Raiser (information on pages 2 &3 above).

  1. Our Website

Pretty much any information you may need about the School is here, and we try to keep you informed about events in the community (mater classes, auditions, etc.) that may be of interest to performing arts students too. To find information on professional shows, auditions, etc.:
see NEWS/ANNOUNCEMENTS.

To find information on our students’ upcoming shows:
see Community Performances under PERFORMING.

To find schedules (i.e. specific call times for specific numbers) for Important Dates:
see the Important Dates posting.

To find anything on the site quickly, at the bottom of each page there is a SEARCH THIS WEBSITE dialogue box. Type in a key word such as “important” and you will get to the Important Dates sheet, for example. (Just be sure to check the dates to ensure you have the correct year for every post/document!)

  1. Final Requests and Reminders

Practice: Performing arts students MUST practice – even if only 10 minutes a day. Instead of sitting in a chair (especially if watching TV!) students should stretch. All students who can write need a notebook to use immediately after each class. If you have not already done so, ensure you download the music your child needs for practicing from:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lnyua84aisiczh2/AACYX1J1qDFST2dAb92vqCcPa?dl=0

Competition: Permission forms will be distributed soon.

Attendance Alerts: If you or your child must be absent or late for a class, please, get in touch with the office every time. Thank you.

Supplies: As well as a notebook, other things your child needs to have for each class are:

  • A package of facial tissue: It is a waste of the time you pay for to have your child leave the studio to get toilet tissue from a bathroom (which may be in use!).
  • A towel: Your child should be sweating in classes; it is a waste of the time you pay for to have your child leave the studio to use the toweling in a bathroom (which may be in use!).
  • A package of bandages/roll of adhesive skin tape: It is a waste of the time you pay for to have your child leave the studio to get a bandage from the office (which may not be open); if we are out of bandages (it is hard to keep up with the daily demand!), it may mean your child cannot participate at all.

Health and Safety:

  • When entering the school, students should put their outdoor footwear under one of the lobby benches.
  •  Food and liquids other than water (and healthy food and drink only please) in the lobby and kitchen areas only. And, if you:
    • make a mess > clean it up
    • move furniture (or see it out of place) > put it back
    • use a dish > wash, dry, and put it away
and please instruct your children to do the same. Thank you.

and please instruct your children to do the same. Thank you.

In Conclusion

Thank you for taking the time to read this Newsletter. If you have any questions about anything, please refer to the website, or your Guidebook (or ask to see the office copy). If you cannot find an answer there, please see us in the office or give us a call.

We are here and happy to help with any questions or needs you may have.

We look forward to seeing you at the annual Christmas Party and Fund Raiser on Saturday, December 12!

With sincere thanks for being with us at Caulfield School of Dance,

Cori Caulfield
Principal, Caulfield School of Dance
