Two of our Dancers competed at the recent New Westminster CoreDance competition event and were recognized with extraordinary results.
Thea Harmse, age 11, was awarded 1st place and High Gold for her Contemporary Solo, “Silence Outside,” choreographed by CSD graduating student Kaia Goddard, and received 6th Overall in the Top Ten Solo/Duo/Trio All Ages Contemporary and 4th Overall in the Top Ten Accelerated Solo/Duo Trio All Styles 12 years and under. For her Lyrical Solo, “Like a Bird,” choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle she was also awarded 1st place and High Gold, landing 4th Overall in the Top Ten Solo/Duo/Trio All Ages Lyrical, and 3rd Overall in the Top Ten Accelerated Solo/Duo Trio All Styles 12 years and under.
Thea also received an Honours Award for Like a Bird, presented to “up to 10 individuals of the Adjudicator’s choosing” whom they feel stand out and deserve “additional recognition for their achievement on stage during the competition”.
Graduating student, Kaia Goddard, age 17, was also extraordinarily successful in all of her solos:
Her Tap Solo, I’ll Lie Here Forever was awarded 1st place and Platinum (the highest level of scoring possible). Kaia received 7th Overall in the Top Ten Solo/Duo/Trio All Ages Tap; and 5th Overall in the Top Ten Accelerated Solo/Duo/Trio All Styles 18 years and Under. All of the above pieces were choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle.
Hailley Caulfield Postle received a Choreography Award for I’ll Lie Here Forever.
Kaia’s Modern Solo choreographed by Ballet BC’s Peter Smida, The Walk, a , was awarded 1st place and High Gold; and her Contemporary Solo Falling Leaves, choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle, was awarded 1st place and High Gold. Kaia placed 2nd Overall Modern and 3rd Overall Contemporary in the Top Ten Solo/Duo/Trio All Ages; and 6th Overall Modern and 8th Overall Contemporary in the Top Ten Accelerated Solo/Duo/Trio All Styles 18 years and Under.
Kaia’s Jazz Solo Fever, choreographed by Lauren Taylor received 1st place and High Gold, 1st Overall in the Top Ten Solo Duo Trio All Ages Jazz; and a Final High Score Plaque for Highest Scoring Jazz Solo/Duo/Trio of the Event. In Lyrical, Kaia’s Solo, Landslide”, choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle, was awarded 1st place High Gold and placed 3rdOverall in the Top Ten solo/Duo/Trip All Ages Lyrical.
Kaia’s Student Choreography solo Overcoming, received 1st place and High Gold and placed 9th Overall Student Choreography in the Top Ten Accelerated Solo/Duo/Trio All Styles 18 years and Under. Kaia was awarded the Student Choreography Award awarded to the top Student Choreographer as selected by the adjudicators.
Kaia was also awarded a Triple Threat Award presented to a soloist who has solos in at least 3 different Style Categories and whose average score for the soloists highest scoring 3 solos in the highest in the competition.
