Caulfield School of Dance students participated in the 2021 Surrey Festival of Dance with solo, duo, and group entries by submitting videos to the competition for adjudication.
In the Acro section, Acro Group “Raise a Little” received 3rd place in the 10 to 12 years category and Acro Trio, “Trouble” received 1st place in the 16 to 20 years category along with a Surrey Festival of Dance Medallion. Both pieces were choreographed and prepared by Lauren Taylor. Soloist Jacquelyn Baillie, was awarded 3rd place for her Acro Solo 12 to 10 years, choreographed by Tally Rodin.
In the Ballet section, Lorena Morissette was awarded 3rd place for her Gamzatti’s Variation Solo En Pointe, prepared by Cori Caulfield. Group 15 years “Blindness” received 3rd place; Group 12 years, “Vivaldi’s Winter” received 1st place with a Surrey Festival of Dance Trophy; Group 11 years, and “Clair de Lune” was also awarded 1st place and the Julie Russell Trophy. The three groups were choreographed by Cori Caulfield.
In the Lyrical section, “Where Is My Love?” placed 2nd in the 16 years category and the cast who performed the piece in the 15 years category received 1st place and the Impact Dental Trophy. Starting as one performance group of 17 dancers, the group was split into two to accommodate Covid performing guidelines. Both groups were choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle.
The Lyrical Group 11 years “Let It Be”, choreographed by Lauren Taylor, was also awarded 1st place with the Encore Dance Academy Trophy.
Lyrical soloists Kiara St. John (8 years) placed 2nd; Thea Harmse (11 years) 3rd; and Kaia Goddard placed 3rd and Lorena Morissette placed 2nd in the 17 years Lyrical solo category. All four solos were choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle.
In the Jazz section, “Body Language” placed 3rd in the 14 years category and the cast who performed the piece in the 16 years category placed 2nd in the. As in the Lyrical section, the same group of dancers was split into two and competed as individual groups, with this choreography by Lauren Taylor, who also choreographed Kaia Goddard’s Jazz Solo which received 2nd place in the 17 years category. Hailley Caulfield Postle’s group piece “A Little Party” placed 1st with a Surrey Festival of Dance Trophy; and her Jazz Duo on Alexis Fiorda and Mia Reitenbach received 1st place.
In the Tap section, Group “Idlewild Blues” was awarded 1st place with the Laurie Ann Trophy; Tap Duo by sisters, Alexis Fiorda and Taia Fiorda received 1st with a Surrey Festival of Dance Medallion; Soloists Taia Fiorda (12 years) and Kaia Goddard (17 years) were both awarded 3rd place for their Tap Solos. All four of these pieces were choreographed and prepared by Hailley Caulfield Postle.
Graduating student, Kaia Goddard was awarded 3rd place for her Modern Solo choreographed by Ballet BC’s Peter Smida and prepared by Cori Caulfield; and 3rd place for her Contemporary Solo choreographed by Hailley Caulfield Postle.
We are very proud of all of our dancers for dancing their pieces so beautifully for the camera, and participating in masterclasses and adjudication sessions by Zoom.
